Nepal has been growing tea for over 150 years, yet it remains one of the world's best-kept secrets. Two districts dominate production: Ilam in the east, and Dhankuta to the north.
Ilam: Nepal's First Tea Country
Tea cultivation in Nepal began in Ilam in the 1860s, introduced by the Rana rulers returning from Darjeeling. The climate here is temperate and humid, producing teas with floral character and a gentle body.
